The California Historical Society is seeking a Director of Finance and Operations to work at our downtown location at 678 Mission Street, around the corner from SF MoMA at Yerba Buena Gardens.  Easy BART and MUNI access. JOB TITLE: DIRECTOR OF FINANCE AND OPERATIONS

The position starts January 11th, 2005.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES: This position has the responsibility for: financial management, human resource management and all physical plant operations for the organization.

This is an exempt, full-time, salaried, Director-Level position. Reports to Executive Director.

JOB DUTIES:

Financial:

  • Works with the Accountant in maintaining computerized accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, weekly cash disbursements for organization and Museum Store, payroll, bank reconciliation, journal entries and sales tax returns.
  • Must complete month and year-end closings and prepare all needed financial reports for Board of Directors and Grantors. 
  • Complete year-end financial reports, which includes overseeing and organizing the yearly audit by an outside auditing firm.
  • Prepares yearly budget for organization.
  • Manages assets of organization held in Endowment fund.

Human Resources:

  • Responsible for ensuring that all recruitment, job descriptions, hiring and terminations are done in a proper and legal manner.
  • Responsible for calculating and tracking accrued Benefits for all employees, including health and worker’s compensation insurance.

Plant/Facility Management:

  • Maintenance, cleanliness, security and repair of the building.
  • Business insurance coverage, including policies, claims and records.
  • Supervises staff of the Museum Store.
  • Supervises the “front end” of the Museum Gallery; including staffing and security.
  • Working with IT consultants, responsible for all computer systems of the organization.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least six years of experience in a similar position, or CPA or MBA degree with fewer years of experience.
  • Experience working with private and government grant administration a plus.
  • Experience with MAS90 preferred.
  • Excellent Excel skills.
  • Excellent Word skills.
  • Excellent computer skills.
