North Baker Research Library

North Baker Research Library Collections, support the aims of the California Historical Society by providing patrons with access to primary and secondary resources. The Library contains material relating to the history of California and the West from the early explorations to the present time. Library holdings include:

  • Manuscripts, including diaries and letters of gold rush miners and early settlers, nineteenth century businesses and political organizations
  • Over 35,000 books and pamphlets
  • Extensive ephemera collection
  • Maps
  • Posters and broadsides
  • Periodicals and newspapers
  • The Kemble Collections on Western Printing and Publishing
