In the spirit of Valentine's Day, the California Historical Society has gathered this charming selection of vintage Valentines! This set of colorful keepsakes are from our Kemble Collections on Western Printing & Publishing. Whimsical, romantic, and even cheeky: these Valentines are artifacts of adoration that have endured the test of time. We invite you to share and send the love around!

A special Valentine for our friend Huell Howser from the CHS family and the Executive Director:

The last time I saw CHS's Special Fellow Huell Howser (1945-2013) was in his office at Crossroads of the World in Los Angeles. An old friend, he had thoughtfully reached out to me to congratulate me on my joining CHS and we had arranged to meet. What was most on his mind was the fate of all the collections in all the small and large historical societies, libraries, and museums that told the deep richness of California’s diverse history. Huell left the planet too soon but leaves a remarkable legacy. You can check out his own archive at Chapman College and if you need a lift and a smile, take a look at him crooning California, Here I Come," one of the last videos he made.
