THE COMMONS ON FLICKR
The California Historical Society (CHS) participates in The Commons on Flickr in support of its mission to inspire and empower people to make California's richly diverse past a meaningful part of their contemporary lives. CHS images shared on The Commons are made publicly accessible to further our educational mission and increase access to scanned photographs for purposes of education, research, and personal enjoyment.
CHS images that are part of The Commons are marked "no known copyright restrictions," indicating that the California Historical Society is unaware of any current copyright restrictions on the works so designated, either because the term of copyright may have expired without being renewed or because no evidence has been found that copyright restrictions apply.
Although we believe the images we share on The Commons are in the public domain, the California Historical Society cannot guarantee that private or commercial use of these images will not infringe upon the rights of unidentified copyright holders. Additionally, images on The Commons may be subject to other third party rights, such as privacy, publicity, and trademark rights. Responsibility for any use, including copying, transmitting, or making any other use of protected images, rests exclusively with the user. Upon written request to the Director of Library & Archives, digitized images can be removed from public view if there are rights issues that need to be resolved.
It is the policy of the California Historical Society to charge a fee for commercial use of these images to support the ongoing care and maintenance of the CHS Collection. Please visit our Reproductions and Permissions page to learn more about ordering high-resolution files of CHS images and obtaining permission for commercial use.
